How Sharethrough Is Redefining Ads on the Web
AUSTIN — Native advertising is the big buzzword of 2013, and it's seeking to redefine the way consumers interact with ads on the web. And though just about everyone in advertising and media is talking about native ads, the concept can be hard to define and understand. In fact, there was an entire panel devoted to defining the term and how it manifests on the web at the Native Advertising Summit last month, and there still was no resolution among panelists after 30 minutes of discussion.
But well before it had a name, the idea native advertising was on the rise. One of the big players in the space is Sharethrough, which was founded at Stanford in 2008 with the lofty goal of fixing advertising by making it more thoughtfully integrated into web content and less obtrusive to consumers. Co-founder and CEO Dan Greenberg describes a native ad as one that echoes the core form or function of the site or platform — it's a promoted video on YouTube, a promoted tweet on Twitter and a Sponsored Story on Facebook.

New Pope Fails to Beat Obama's Twitter Record
If it felt like your Twitter feed earlier Wednesday was nothing but tweets about the new pope, well ... that's because it probably was.
Twitter said it had seen some 7 million tweets related to the new pontiff, a number that seems sure to grow by the end of the day. At its peak, the papal tweeting reached a crescendo of 132,000 tweets per minute.
That's not quite a groundbreaking number, howeverPresident Obama's 2012 election victory set the record at 237,000 tweets per minute back in November. Some 20 million tweets were sent on election night.
If a new pope can't beat that number, we doubt anything will for some time.

"[Grumpy Cat] is what I commonly refer to as a pantydropper."

Several new “smart” apps make you look a bit smarter when it comes to phone calls and meetings, and a new camera app turns your photos into short, shareable videos in just a few taps.

Internet Porn Is Safe in Europe (For Now)
The European Parliament passed a proposal Tuesday which included a blanket ban on pornography, including Internet porn, in European Union member states
However, Members of European Parliament (MEPs) removed explanatory wording from the porn ban section, essentially limiting the ban to advertising and print media.
The proposal "Eliminating gender stereotypes in the EU" was put to a vote in Strasbourg. MEPs passed it 368-159.
The original proposal called for a ban "on all forms of pornography in the media," with a section suggesting that there would be a block on Internet porn:
[The European Parliament] points out that a policy to eliminate stereotypes in the media will of necessity involve action in the digital field; considers that this requires the launching of initiatives coordinated at EU level with a view to developing a genuine culture of equality on the internet; calls on the Commission to draw up in partnership with the parties concerned a charter to which all internet operators will be invited to adhere.

AUSTIN — Google used SXSW this week to share a little more information about Glass. During a session catered specifically to developers, the company revealed more details about Glass’ Mirror API, and showed off several apps that have already been developed for Glass, including products from Gmail, the New York Times, Path and Evernote.
“It feels like tech is often getting in the way more than it needs to," Timothy Jordan, Google’s senior developer advocate, said on stage during the event. “That’s what we’re addressing with Project Glass”
While the company showed off some functioning apps, Jordan was quick to point out that Google isn’t finished with the project, and what we see now might not be what we see a few months from now.

Hot TV Mic Catches NFL Hall of Famer's Critical F-Bombs
Oops! A hot mic caught NFL Hall of Famer and current analyst Warren Sapp dropping some choice words about his network's quality of programming on Tuesday
Sapp works as an analyst for the NFL Network, and apparently feels the channel has spent a little too much time lately talking up New England Patriots coach, Bill Belichick. Only problem? He may want to double-check whether his mic's on the next time he feels like sharing
During a segment featuring guest Scott Pioli, the former Kansas City Chiefs general manager, Sapp was heard off-screen muttering that Pioli was, in effect, giving "the same fucking speech we had Mike Lombardi give — the fucking Bill Belichick fucking angle."

Are You Human? Take Part Two of the Test
After taking YouTuber Ze Frank's "Human Test," you may have been concerned about your true identity — perhaps you're actually a cyborg or zombie roaming the planet in a human body
But fear not. If your results were inconclusive, try the follow-up test. It's much more accurate in its ability to predict whether you're an undeniable member of this species. It can tell if you were made from the same awkward, confused human DNA that results in eccentric behavior, such as making your pet angry just for the fun of it, or lying about allergies for no conceivable reason
