With Checkon.me, set emergency contacts from your address book, then set an alarm. If you don't check in before the designated time, the app alerts your contacts. There is also a panic button in case of unexpected danger. It works even if your phone gets turned off at some point, and will even tell your contact the last known location of your phone.
